Brodie and Liam’s Country Wedding

Brodie and Liam came to me for on-the-day stationery for their Flowerdale Estate wedding.  It was a pleasure creating a range of refined country-style paper items and signage, and I think you’ll love seeing not only how it all came together, but also the final images of their beautiful day!

As a wedding stationery designer, I hardly ever get to actually go to weddings.  So, when I learned that Brodie and Liam were getting married at a beautiful country venue only an hour from my house, I offered to deliver and set up their stationery at the wedding.  It was a thrill for me to set it all up for them, and see Flowerdale Estate first hand!

Designing Their Stationery

But let’s back it up a little.  Brodie got in touch and described her wedding to me as a country, rustic laid back affair at Flowerdale Estate.  Her bridesmaids were wearing rust brown, and she’d be holding native flowers in her bouquet.  She loved the Indie Handmade paper right from the start, which is paper made from cotton, each piece created inside a mould and pressed to the right size (those edges aren’t ripped!).  But Brodie also loved the Farmhouse design in my Creative Collection.  So yes, we combined both of those!

We decided to use the fonts from Farmhouse which brought an elegant refinement to the pieces, and the Indie Handmade paper with the beautiful irregular edging for the menus.  Printing all the text in a cinnamon colour created a cohesive look across the stationery and the other styling elements.

Reception Table Numbers

When I presented Brodie and Liam their first mockup to be approved, I chose their table numbers to be a cinnamon-coloured card with a heavy texture, printed in white ink.  I made this design decision so that the table numbers would have a much stronger look than a white table number, standing out from the table so that their guests could easily see them.

I often see table numbers looking quite petite and plain, and it’s makes them really hard to see when guests are looking for their table!

The white ink on cinnamon was the reverse colouring as the rest of the items, which were white with the cinnamon-coloured text.  Now their whole suite of stationery and signage worked beautifully together.  Brodie loved the idea, and I had everything printed.

Eco-Friendly Signs

As an environmentally friendly stationery designer, I don’t offer any acrylic or foam items.  They’re single-use plastic, and there are a range of other options to choose from.  So for the happy couple’s signs, I chose an eco-friendly white card board for their smaller wishing well sign, and for the larger Welcome and ‘Find Your Face’ signs (more on that later), I chose a white aluminium sign with a rubber core.  As you can see in the photos, the quality is just the same if not better than foam board.

Flowerdale Estate Wedding

Once all the stationery items were ready, I just had an excited wait until the big day!  Brodie and Liam got married at Flowerdale Estate on a Wednesday (very chic!), and so my toddler went off to childcare and I packed the car for the drive there.

I had never been to Flowerdale Estate, and it was so lovely to see it in person.  I had of course seen those iconic green doors all over social media, but the Estate is so much more than that.  As you turn into the driveway, you’re surrounded by rolling green hills, and you’re greeted by a charming set of dwellings that make the perfect backdrop for a country wedding.  Not to mention there is accommodation on site!

The Pavillion

The beautiful big trees really charmed me, and I could immediately see the appeal for a country or garden wedding.  I happily walked through to reception and the lovely staff showed me where the Pavillion was located – the site of the wedding reception. 

Those green doors!  I walked through and entered the light-filled hall, and set up all the table numbers, menus, and the signs.

The Indie Handmade menus were for the table rather than each guest, so I placed one every 6 or so guests.  This is what I recommend to all my couples who aren’t having individual menus.

Is it weird to say that I had such a great time laying everything out?!

Find Your Face

So you might be wondering – no place cards at a wedding reception?  Not exactly.  Brodie and Liam actually engaged an illustrator called Live Sketch by Danni B to draw each and every guest as a caricature, to be placed at the person’s table setting.  This is why they needed a “Find Your Face” sign from me!  I made a large sign that said “Find your face to take your place”, indicating to the guests that they had to walk around the reception to find their own face!  This interactive activity is the perfect memorable moment to surprise guests, and I bet they’ll be talking about it for a long time to come.

The Ceremony Lawn

I then headed over to the North Lawn where the ceremony was to be held, to place the welcome sign.  And it was there that I bumped into the beaming bride!  I kept a low profile as she was about to get “getting ready” photos, but she told me she’d seen the reception set up and told me how beautiful all the stationery looked.  Her delight made my day.

Brodie and Liam’s Big Day

Alright, I won’t keep you waiting any longer!  Here are some more images of Brodie and Liam’s charming country wedding, taken by the talented Michael Briggs Photography.  I snuck away after setting everything up, back home to pick up the kids and have dinner, and the happy couple and the guests danced the night away.
